Joining the Cathedral Singers

The Cathedral Singers was formed in 1978 to sing the daily services in the Cathedral at the invitation of the Dean and Chapter when the Cathedral Choir is not in residence. This amounts to some 100 services throughout the year. The choir is drawn from a rota of adult members who live and work in and around Oxford and is conducted by a professional Director of Music, currently John Padley. When in residence at the Cathedral, the choir meets to rehearse at 5 pm for a service at 6 pm.

The singers are mostly amateur musicians from all walks of life, who maintain an excellent musical standard, with repertoire extending from Renaissance polyphony to twenty-first century composers. The Singers also perform other services and concerts in Oxford and beyond, with recent engagements including evensong at St. Paul's, London. They also undertake an annual summer tour and have recently visited New York, Minnesota and the Czech Republic. The Cathedral Singers has released four CDs to date, details of which can be found on the choir website.

The choir is always pleased to welcome new voices, in all parts. To enquire about this, or to join our mailing list for advance notice of concerts, prior booking and reserved seating, please don't hesitate to contact us via our website or email the Administrator.
